I spent a few hours yesterday pulling up the laminate flooring that the previous owner had installed in place of the shag green carpet (not complaining about that haha!) and much to my dismay, I found a few more spots of rusted out plywood subflooring.
I started pulling up the laminate flooring to check out a spot by the door that I could see was darker where the laminate didn’t quite go to the wall. When I pulled up the laminate in that spot to take a peek, it was rotted and soft. I didn’t snap a picture of the larger spot that was completely rotted out under the passenger side front window, but I’ll grab one tomorrow. I have about half of the laminate pulled up, with most of it being reuseable. I want to have the rest pulled up by tomorrow.
I’m definitely going to have to pull out all of the cabinetry and appliances to check the subfloor in those spots. I’ve spent a lot of time reading on airforums.com and I’m entirely freaked out about what I’m going to find.
Seeing as it’s January in Michigan and I want to be on the road by the end of June at the latest, I’m putting all the good vibes out that I can get away with spot mending vs having to switch to a shell-off restoration. I’m optimistic!
Either way, I’d rather handle these issues now vs when I’m on the road and don’t have the resources to handle them. I know things will happen on the road, but I’d rather not invite someone in to see my camper and have them fall through the floor, or find out the frame rusted out on the highway.
Just doesn’t sound like my idea of a good time, no?
