It wasn’t until December that I started having time (aka making it a priority) to work on my ’74 Airstream. I had also just gotten a new flash for my Canon which absolutely means I had to go take 10,000 photos of every nook and cranny before I started reno.
I’m not getting too crazy too quickly; I’m not sure of what holds a lot of value in my precious trailer, I want to be able to reuse as much as possible while freshening it up to fit my tastes! I’m not a purist by any means. I love the original feel of the Airstream but I want to open it up a bit and really make it homey and airy!
The iconic idea of a Great America Roadtrip. There’s something incredibly nostalgic/romantic/freeing about the idea of a roadtrip. I don’t mean the kind of roadtrip where you’re all stressed trying to make it to grandma’s in time for Christmas Eve dinner (don’t act like you haven’t been there).
I mean a no set schedule, seeing the country, hiking in canyons, stopping at hole-in-the-wall cafes that have the best breakfast food you’ve ever tasted, visiting friends all across the country, kind of roadtrip. No strings, no agendas, just a list of places that you want to get to and figuring out the best way as you go!
Only after I bought my pretty little Airstream did I discover the Airstream community. Turns out, there are thousands and thousands of us. Who knew. Forums, Facebook groups, community events, rallies, you name it, they probably have something for it! And after further digging… I realized MAYBE I should have done a little more research before jumping in whole hog but that’s never really been my style 😉
I’m still ironing out plans for my great adventure, but I do hope you’ll follow along as I figure out this whole reno/remodel/moneypit along the way. I’m sure it will involved lots of notes, pictures, f-bombs, power tools and a few beers along the way. If you don’t enjoy those things, well then, you might just learn to because I feel that this adventure will be one worth following!
P.S. – Here are some more pics, just because I know you’re dying to see the inside!
